Gift Giving Guide: Anthropology Style 5.0

Tis the season for graduations and other gift giving celebrations.  As such the series of gift giving posts continues with anthropologically themed gifts for the anthropologists (or interested individuals) you may know in your life.  Check out these amazing gift ideas!

For the Cultural Anthropologist

Margaret Mead is a famous cultural anthropologist who is widely known and quoted throughout the discipline.  This pillow is an excellent choice for the cultural anthropologist you may know as this Margaret Mead quote is both inspirational and on point.  It is available through WiseOldeOwl.

For the Physical Anthropologist

Physical anthropologists/evolutionary biologists will enjoy this versatile gift, which works for all sorts of different beverages.  Plus, it covers a wide breadth of evolutionary species.  Check it out through CeramicGoddess.

For the Linguistic Anthropologist

If you happen to know someone who is interested in language and culture or more specifically linguistic anthropology then this gift may be perfect!  This upcycled hardcover journal works for many purposes, which you or the gift receiver can personalize.  For sale through CognitiveSurplus.

For the Archaeologist

Bring a little light to the life of the archaeologist you happen to know with this Egyptian inspired lamp shade.  It comes in a variety of sizes, as well as two types for either ceiling or desk lamps.  Best for those interested in Egyptology but acceptable for those interested in mythology, religion, state level societies, and more.  Ships through FattadaMamma.

These are really cool gifts. I think someone who's not an Anthropologist would enjoy these gifts. I would be ecstatic if I ever received one of these gifts. Just hope it's not like in Seinfeld when someone re-gifts these stuff. I especially like the journal cover, reminds me of the Matrix.

Awesome, I love all the items. I am going to check out the sites right after I post this. That lamp shade goes great with some replica paintings I purchased from local artists. I am trying to dedicate one room in my house to anthropology; it is a long process, so this information is good to know. Looks like I will be buying myself something really amazing for graduation, or better yet, I will forward this blog to my daughter.

Tammy, the ceramist is making more of the mugs this weekend, although I'm not sure when she'll be posting them. So you may want to wait on those. :)

Even though I am not an anthropologist, the up cycled journal aimed and the linguistic anthropologist is actually a really cool gift for almost anyone. I definitely wouldn't mind receiving it!

What fun, the mug is especially cool to me, but I love bones, so there is that.... Some folks are so hard to find gifts for!

These are really fun gift ideas! My little sister's birthday is coming up and she has always been fascinated with bones and evolution so I think the ceramic mug would be perfect! I personally really like the journal and how they incorporated linguistics in the cover, I thought that was punny. Thanks for the share :)

This is an awesome post! I have a close friend Andrea who is graduating this May, and I think that the mug for Physical Anthropologist would be a great gift. Personally I think the linguistics journal looks very cool. Thanks!

I've never been much of a gift giver, but thoughtful gifts like these make me want to reconsider the significance and effort that is made by the gesture.

I most enjoyed the Margaret Mead pillow--it prompted me to read up more on her. I was surprised to learn that she was one of Boas' co-ed contemporaries. It's pretty nice to see that she was able to make own significant and lasting contributions to anthropology (without them being overshadowed or undeplayed by Boas' pioneerism in the field.)

I really like the quote by Margaret Mead about a small thoughtful group being able to change the world. The mug is not my thing nor would I get it for anyone, as I am a Creationist. The hardcover journal is just cool. I am by no means a linguistic person but I would get one. The lamp shade is cool, as a huge SciFi fan it makes me think of Stargate. Sky

I don't have any anthro major friends but, I would certainly buy myself an anthro gift! The cup seems pretty legit to have around my house. Plus the design is super rad!

This blog, the gifts on here are amazing. I would definitely buy a few for myself. The lamp shade is amazing, the color scheme and the two queens. The pillow, the quotes on there are amazing and uplifting.

That journal cover is awesome I wouldn't mind having one of those myself but if I bought my family one of those mugs it probably would lead to a fight because they are super religious.

I do not know anybody that is a anthro major or grad. But I do know people that would enjoy some of theses as gifts and i think you just helped me go Christmas shopping.

Happy to help. The human evolution mugs are only available by special order now, but they are very sturdy. I purchased one for my former tutor (who worked with my students for two years), and he loves it!

These gift ideas are very creative. I see that they can bring out the happiness in anyway they seem fit.

The Egyptian Lamp shade is dope. I might have to order that for myself. If only I were able to interpret/ translate the hieroglyphics.

I believe the Linguistic Anthropologist gift would be nice for writers because a tablet can come in handy for any little thing definitely when your out doing some research to post notes.

I'm not going to lie, if someone was to give me that lamp shade as a gift I would be satisfied with my life.

these gifts are beautiful and anthropologist would love these gifts but i bet these small gifts cost a bunch of money because they are one of a kind.

I see that you can customize the tablets by cognitive surplus but I wanted to know if all the other items are customizable. I really can't tell the material of the lamp shade, but it looks like its pretty hard compared to the average lamp shade would you happen to know what kind of material is used to make them.

- I 100% agree with the quote on the pillow and I believe the small group of people has to be talking about the government being that they are still citizens.

I like the Egyptology lamp, I guess I like it so much because I love Egyptology. Its very interesting. This would be a great gift for Anthropologist and for non-Anthropologist.

I think as a historical nerd I could come to love these gifts as well. I guess not only studying anthropology gives you a wide variety, but with gifts as well!

i love the Egyptian inspired lamp shade. I would have this in my living room, along with things that are relevant to Egyptians.

Well this one seemed to have more of a significant feel to the meanings of the symbols or the words . I tend to lean towards the Egyptian inspired lamp shade because it’s pretty and really does portray the life of Egyptian kings and queens . . Perfect for the archaeology department that studied pyramids .
